Austentatious Clean

Laura Hansen is the owner & soapmaker of Northanger Soapworks, an online bath & body shop that specializes in Jane Austen inspired products.

Hansen recalls how she was inspired to start the line of Austen soaps after buying a new fragrance oil that was known to turn soap brown. "The idea came to me," she begins, "what if I used it to make the soap look like Elizabeth's muddy petticoat?" It made her think of the Pride and Prejudice quote: "six inches deep in mud, I'm absolutely certain."

Hansen had so much fun making the soap, that she decided she wanted to make more. "And that I had to share it," she adds.

"You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

"You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

Hansen now has a whole line of soaps dedicated to Austen. But the "Ardently" bar soap is her most popular. It's inspired from Mr. Darcy's famous proposal to Elizabeth Bennet.

Hansen explains that Austen fans like her products because they're inspired from something they love. "So it makes the soap so much more fun," she says. Adding how the soaps are also beautiful & smell wonderful. "And are far more moisturizing and skin friendly than what you can find at the store."
